Ways to Help

Share in social media:

Despite the fact Huronia Transition is funded at various levels by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Attorney General, every year our organization must fundraise to meet the ongoing needs of the women and children we serve.

In order to meet our fundraising goals – and raise awareness and promote activism – we organize several events throughout the year in our communities.

Your support ensures we maintain our current level of service.

Please check back regularly for updates and information concerning each event.

  • 12 Days of Christmas Fresh Food Drive

This initiative is put on by Karma Marketplace, and helps support la Maison Rosewood shelter by fundraising for fresh food donations.  Food or financial donations are asked to be made in support of ending poverty based hunger, recognizing the need for healthy food choices to be given to all persons.

  • December 6th Ceremony

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

Each year, La Maison Rosewood Shelter, along with Canadians and organizations across the nation, hold a ceremony for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. We remember the 14 women murdered in 1989 at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal. We remember the women killed that year by their partners. We welcome everyone to join us. First mourn. Then work for change.

  • Take Back the Night

Thursday September 17, 2015 at the Rotunda of Barrie’s City Hall

Each year, Athena’s Sexual Assault Counselling and Advocacy Centre organizes Take Back the Night, an internationally held march and rally intended as a protest and direct action against rape and other forms of violence against women. This event enables large numbers of women to publicly express their anger at the sexual violence that goes on and the victim blaming that accompanies it.

While we receive government funding, the annual allocation determines the nature of the services we can provide, not necessarily what abused women and their children in our community need. Many services are not funded or are underfunded and consequently cannot be delivered by our staff.

We look forward to the day when violence against women and their children is a history lesson. Add your name to our list of supporters now!
